Welcome to English 60A.

IMPORTANT!!! (see below)

TIP:  "past" is a NOUN and ADJECTIVE & refers to the past
ex.      "past history;" "The Medieval period occurred in the past"
"passed" is a VERB, and is an action word
ex.      He passed me on the freeway: he passed the book to her,
he passed the test

TIPNEVER use an apostrophee to make a plural!!!!!
ex.  WRONG: the student's ran
        RIGHT: the students ran.
 because...
An apostrophee is for possessives
ex.    RIGHT: Bob's car

TIP:   This "of" animal does NOT EXIST!!!!!    Nooooooo!
ex.   WRONG:  I would of gone  (ouch!!)
        RIGHT:  I would have gone.
because...
"I would have gone" is the PresentPerfect (" have"+ past participle).  Look at your time- line! (click on this link to see timeline).
ex. Present;                         I go
     Past:                              I went
     Future:                           I will go
     Present Perfect:              I have gone
     Past Perfect:                   I had gone
Future Perfect:                I will have gone

TIP: NEVER NEVER use "WENT" with "have"
ex. WRONG: I have went  (ouch, & re-ouch!!)
        RIGHT I have gone
because...
"have gone" is present perfect and requires the past participle (gone), not the past (went).
         ex. Present                      Past                          Past Participle
                go                            went                          gone
